V5.88 has six dedicated motor outputs; its Extra I/O can be configured as one additional Step/Dir/Enable motor group (up to 7 axes) or used as ordinary I/O — the same signals cannot do both at once. The official grblHAL Web Builder target for V5.88 currently advertises a maximum of 4 axes; see its Wiki chapter before choosing firmware. V5.77 has six dedicated motor outputs; its six Extra I/O signals can form two additional Step/Dir/Enable groups (up to 8 axes) or remain ordinary outputs, with the same one-or-the-other restriction.

Firmware & software

LightBurn checkmarks reflect LightBurn's own official documentation, which lists GRBL, FluidNC and grblHAL as supported controllers/firmware (a LightBurn Core or Pro license is required for GCode devices). The other checkmarks record PiBot's October 2025 in-house compatibility test, not certification by those software projects — retest after a firmware or software update. grblHAL runs a GRBL 1.1f compatibility mode, so most 1.1f-targeted software works with it.
